Whoa. Somebody finally fixed the world’s focus! I can see and it’s almost freaking me out.

Edit 11:30a : I had my post-op checkup this morning and tested out at 20/15 in both eyes.  That’s pretty decent.  I”m ridiculously excited.

Two hours to go until LASIK. 1:15 until I pop the Xanax pill that should calm me down somewhat.

Nervous anticipation: I has it.

I hate going to doctors because I hate admitting that I’m fragile. However, I think I need to suck it up and go get my ankles looked at. When it locks up and you can’t actually move it for five minutes because the pain in doing so is just that bad then it’s probably time to throw in the towel.

I did some pretty heavy damage to my right foot back in ‘97 when a kid double-bounced me right off the edge of a trampoline. Never really got that looked at because I didn’t have insurance to deal with it. Since then it’s been quite functional if oddly-shaped and rather easy to sprain during activities like “walking across a flat surface”.

After skiing a few weeks back, that same foot (including portions of the lower leg) has been nothing but trouble. I’ve got the sneaking suspicion that it’s a combination of damaged ligaments and a possible stress fracture in the leg.

I’ve got an appointment next week at Orthopedic Center of the Rockies (where a number of my friends and colleagues have had themselves rebuilt) to get it looked at. I’m hoping that I learn that I’m being pessimistic but I’m pessimistic about that.

This is a good humbling experience for me especially after a bunch of us spent some time telling one of our friends “Dude, you broke your hand – it looks like a meat-stuffed mitten. Get thee to a hospital, dummy.”

Oh, the heady joys of homemade guacamole.

I really want a margarita right now to wash down that avocado.

Two days from now I have my LASIK surgery.

Nervous?  Yes.

Excited?  Yes.

Wish I had the skills necessary to evaluate what a pair of sunglasses looks like on my face?  Yes.

The Oscar nominees were announced today. In the running for “Best Picture”: Avatar.

…along with nine, count ‘em – nine other films.

Point 1: ten nominees for “Best Picture” is pretty ridiculous to begin with.

Point 2: Avatar – shiny and pretty though it was – doesn’t have any business being on that list.

In more interesting news, the Razzie nominees were announced yesterday.  How many of them are you ashamed to admit that you paid money to see?  I saw two – other people rented them, thankfully, so I don’t have that on my conscience.

A few of us found a surprising secret about Fort Collins on Sunday night.

The secret is both mysterious and tasty.

It’s a restaurant that has good microbrews for $1.50 – every day of the week, every hour that they’re open.  And the food’s pretty decent, too.

Matador Mexican Grill – 1823 E. Harmony Road (Harmony and Timberline, next to Coldstone Creamery).

Other people need to start eating here so that they don’t close!

The Albertsons grocery store near my house has recently undergone a remodel.  Some of the new signage is… a bit puzzling.

Juice Let me be honest, here. I think there’s way too many categories of “juice” on this sign. I’m not entirely comfortable having to think about whether or not I want my juice to be “aseptic” or not.

This week has both flown by and dragged its feet miserably. I’m glad to see it come to an end.

I get to watch Avatar again tonight and spend time shopping with Lia tomorrow before we go to dinner with my coworkers for a project-completion party.

Also: two weeks from today is my LASIK appointment. I’m excitedly nervous. I alternate between browsing for guide dog services and nice non-prescription sunglasses.
